FT: The result means that Real Madrid will need to prevent Atlético from finding the net three times, but they will also be eager to find the net themselves. Atlético will need to score at least three goals without reply but also have to deny Real Madrid from scoring themselves, which based on tonight’s performance proved to be easier said than done.
FT: Real Madrid were fantastic as a team and restricted Atlético to very few chances throughout the match. Offensively they were also fantastic and created a number of good chances especially in the final 20 minutes. Ronaldo first fired home on the half-volley to double Madrid’s lead before substitute Vázquez fired an effort wide after good initial play from fellow substitute Asensio. Ronaldo then completed his hat-trick, firing home following a swift break before Modrić volleyed just wide.
FT: Atlético were relatively poor by their usual standard and didn’t create a single chance in the second-half. They were poor defensively and looked out of place and unfortunately for them, Real Madrid and Ronaldo capitalised.
FT: So Real Madrid have the upper-hand with a three-goal lead.

HT: So will Real Madrid extend their lead for their second-leg or will Atlético Madrid find an away-goal to take back home? Join us again for the second-half.
HT: The visitors have been unusually disappointing in defence and have allowed Real Madrid to create a number of good chances in the area. Going forward they have to be more clinical, having spurned a number of good chances. Griezmann has been quiet as of yet but he has lacked the required service in truth. The visitors know that should they score an away-goal, it will give them the advantage. Real Madrid will want to extend their lead to take a larger deficit to the Vicente Calderón and they will also need to be more clinical but they will know that they have to be at their best defensively to prevent the Rojiblancos from finding an away-goal.
HT: Atlético haven’t seen much of the ball but they have created a couple of good chances, the first of which fell to Gameiro, who was played through on-goal but Navas did well to smother the ball away as the striker looked to take it past him. Godín then spurned a great chance to level the scores when he latched onto a Griezmann freekick but he volleyed the ball over the bar from close-range.
HT: Real Madrid have created a number of good chances and fully deserve their lead and might have been further ahead had it not been for Oblak, who has made some fine saves. First a Carvajal strike was palmed away by Oblak into the path of Benzema, whose follow-up was smothered away by the keeper before Ronaldo headed the hosts ahead. Varane was next to be denied by the Atlético keeper, who brilliantly palmed the defender’s header behind. Isco then tested the keeper from-range before Benzema’s miscued effort produced a straightforward save for the keeper. Modrić then curled an effort inches wide from-range before Benzema fired an acrobatic-volley inches over the bar.
HT: So Real Madrid lead at the break.
