Estádio José Alvalade, Lisboa, Portugal

1-1

5′ Silva (P)

65′ Lindelöf

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Benfica remain top of the league but now move onto 72 points while Sporting remain in third but now move onto 64 points.

FT: Benfica were clinical and made the most of their chances. First Mitroglou forced Patrício into a good save after Pizzi’s managed to find the striker, before Lindelöf’s freekick levelled the scores. Benfica almost found another when Dost flicked-on a Salvio throw-in towards his own-goal but Patrício made the save.

FT: Both sides created good chances in the second-half with Sporting spurning a number of them. First Dost headed a A. Silva cross over the bar before he dragged a strike wide of the target after fine pass from Martins.

FT: So Lindelöf’s freekick has earned the Águias a point.

45′ Benfica get the second-half underway.

HT: So will Sporting add to their tally and hold onto their lead or will Benfica come back in this match? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: There was a penalty appeal from Benfica with Lindelöf going down after a clumsy challenge from behind by César but nothing was given. Sporting will need to add to their tally if they are to seal the victory given Benfica’s quality. Dost has been quiet but his one contribution so far, of winning the penalty, has helped Sporting. The hosts have looked comfortable in defence, catching Mitroglou offside on a number of occasions. Benfica need to find a goal if they are to keep themselves ahead in the league. They have got into some promising positions but their final pass has let them down. Mitroglou has been deprived of service thus far and will need to be fed the ball if he is to cause problems for this well-drilled Sporting defence. They do have Raúl Jiménez on the bench, who may be summoned if things fail to improve.

HT: There haven’t been many chances in this first-half but Ederson’s rash challenge, which resulted in a penalty that A. Silva scored has been the difference. Benfica have dominated the possession but haven’t created much in truth with Salvio firing the ball over the bar from-range before Grimaldo forced Patrício into a fine save from a freekick.

HT: So Sporting lead at the break thanks to A. Silva’s penalty.
