Chelsea F.C. vs Manchester City F.C.

Premier League

April 5th

Stamford Bridge, London, England

10′ Hazard

26′ Agüero

34′ Hazard

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Chelsea remain top but now move onto 72 points, seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham, while Manchester City remain in fourth on 58 points.

FT: City will be disappointed that they couldn’t get a point from the match given the number of good chances they created. First Kompany headed an effort against the bar before Fernandinho fired an effort over the bar from close-range. Stones then met a Silva corner with a header but it was straight at Courtois before Agüero’s effort on the slide was smothered behind by Courtois. Stones then spurned a great chance late-on from close-range as City’s slight hopes of winning the title were dashed.

FT: The Blues held on for a majority of the second-half and did well to close the game out. They did create a few chances with first Pedro forcing Caballero into a good save before Hazard fired an effort just over the bar after good intricate plat with Pedro and Fàbregas.

FT: So Chelsea remain seven points clear of second-place Tottenham Hotspur.

HT: So will Chelsea add to their tally and hold on or will Manchester City come back in this match? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Chelsea will need to make sure they get Hazard on the ball, given the threat he possesses, Costa has been isolated and will require better service if he is to score his 50th Premier League goal. Chelsea’s defence has to be more alert to deal with the threat of Agüero and cannot afford any more lapses especially from Courtois. City will need to get Agüero more involved, the Argentine has looked a threat and has caused the hosts a number of problems. The visitors cannot afford to concede another as it put the tie to bed.

HT: City have created a number of good chances but a couple of errors from Caballero has cost them as the Argentine should have done better for Hazard’s opening deflected goal, before he parried Hazard’s penalty into the Belgian, who fired home. The visitors have created a number of good chances but their lack of clinical finishing has proved dividends. First Fernandinho’s effort from-range tested Courtois before Agüero forced the Belgian keeper into a good save. A Courtois error led to City’s leveller from Agüero, who reacted well after Silva’s effort was parried into his path. Sané then had an effort smothered after a fine through-ball from Silva before Fernandinho conceded a penalty that was eventually capitalised by Hazard. Agüero then went close when he fired wide via a deflection.

HT: Since finding the early goal the Blues have been on top and looked to be relatively comfortable, restricting their visitors to strikes from-range, however a poor clearance from Courtois, changed the complexion of the game as City were then in the ascendancy before Hazard’s second goal after his initial penalty was saved. Chelsea haven’t created many clear-cut chances but have got into some promising positions and have been more clinical. First Costa fired an effort wide from-range before Hazard’s deflected effort put the Blues ahead. Fàbregas then very nearly doubled the lead when his deflected effort looped onto the top of the crossbar before Hazard’s rebound from his penalty.

HT: So Chelsea narrowly lead at the break.
