Emirates FA Cup

Sixth-Round

March 13th

Stamford Bridge, London, England

1-0

34′ Herrera Sent off (Second bookable offence)

51′ Kanté

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Chelsea will play Tottenham Hotspur in the Semi-finals of the competition whilst last season’s Champions Manchester United bow out.

FT: The visitors did well for a team, who were down to ten-men, creating some good chances in the second-half and possibly should have levelled the scores when Rashford capitalised on an error by Luiz, but he was terrifically denied by Courtois, who made a terrific save. Pogba also went close when he dragged an effort just wide but the visitors can be proud of their display despite being down to ten-men.

FT: The Blues created a number of good chances in the second-half and should have extended their lead but Kanté’s goal was enough for the West-London side. First Kanté curled the ball home after being allowed too much space before Costa met a Willian corner with his shoulder that flashed just wide. Willian then curled an effort inches over the bar before the Brazilian forced De Gea into a good save at his near-post. Costa then went close to tapping-home a Willian cross but it just evaded him before Fàbregas was denied well by De Gea.

FT: So Chelsea make the man advantage count to defeat Manchester United and progress into the Semi-finals where they will play Tottenham Hotspur.

HT: So will Chelsea make use of the extra-man to find the lead or will Manchester United frustrate the league-leaders and find a goal themselves? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: The hosts will need to take advantage of the extra-man and will need to get the ball out wide to Hazard, who has posed a threat to the United defence, and Willian. Costa also needs better service in the final-third if Chelsea are to defeat a now more-defensive United back-line. The visitors will be hoping to remain in the game as long as possible and will need to be at their best defensively. They will also hope to make the most of their opportunities on the counter-attack.

HT: The visitors initially started well but haven’t created many chances thus far with Mkhitaryan dragging an effort just wide, the closest they have come. They were reduced to ten-men after Herrera, who was already booked, needlessly and cynically fouled Hazard before receiving a second yellow and his marching-orders.

HT: The hosts started slower than their opponents but have created a number of good chances. First Hazard was terrifically denied by De Gea after beating Smalling and Rojo. De Gea then made a fantastic save to deny Cahill following a corner. Hazard then went close when he seized onto a loose ball to fire an effort wide of the target before Moses fired an effort just over the bar.

HT: So we’re goalless at the break with nothing to separate the two sides.
