Round of 16, First-leg

February 22nd

Estádio do Dragão, Porto, Portugal

26′ Telles Sent off (Second bookable offence)

72′ Pjaca

74′ Alves

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Juventus will take a 2-0 advantage back to Turin for the second-leg. The Italian side also have two precious away goals. Porto will need to score two away-goals without reply in order to stay in the tie.

FT: Porto’s best chance in the entire match fell to Herrera after a good cross-field pass from substitute Layún but he headed the ball just wide.

FT: The sending-off early in the first-half spoiled the contest in truth and Juventus capitalised to take advantage of the extra-man. The visitors went close on a few occasions before finding the two away goals. First Dybala had a goal disallowed for offside before the Argentine tested Casillas with a curling-strike. Khedira then fired an effort just wide on the half-volley before Higuaín cut-inside to fire just wide. Substitute Pjaca then fired home after a fortunate ricochet before fellow substitute Alves added a quick-fire second on the half-volley. Khedira then spurned a great chance late-on when his effort on the slide drifted just wide.

FT: So Juventus take a 2-0 first-leg advantage back to Turin.

45′ Juventus get the second-half underway.

HT: So will Porto successfully hold on or will Juventus’ man-advantage pay off? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: The hosts will need to put in a more disciplined and defensive display in the second-half if they are to keep the scores goalless in preparation for the second-leg in Turin. They should also try and be clinical on the break as chances for a side with ten-men against a well-drilled Juventus defence will be almost impossible, especially with striker André Silva sacrificed. Juventus will need to make use of the man-advantage and will need to get the ball out wide in the flanks to provide better service to Higuaín and Dybala. Mandžukić has also been rather quiet in the match and will need to have more of an influence if Juventus are to take a lead to Italy.

HT: The visitors have had some good chances and are unfortunate to not be ahead. First Dybala fired an effort over the bar on the slide before Cuadrado fired an effort just wide of the post. Pjanić then tested Casillas before Khedira headed wide from a Sandro cross. A deflected strike from Higuaín then forced Casillas into a good save before Dybala curled an effort that struck the post.

HT: The hosts have been restricted to shots from-range with Brahimi firing over the bar from a freekick and Neves firing off-target. Since Porto were reduced to ten-men they have had to defend well and thus far, have been able to deal with the offensive threat of Higuaín and Dybala. Casillas has produced a few good saves too to keep the Portuguese side in the tie.

HT: So we’re goalless at the break with ten-men Porto clinging on.
