Chelsea progressed into the Quarter-finals of the FA cup after defeating a spirited Wolverhampton Wanderers side 2-0 in the Fifth Round, away at the Molineux Stadium.

Second-half goals from Pedro and Diego Costa ensured the Blues reached the last-eight for the second consecutive season after former Blues midfielder George Saville hit the post in the fourth minute for Wolves.

The hosts, who overcame Liverpool in the Fourth Round, started well and should have taken the lead in the fourth minute when Kurt Zouma failed to deal with a cross from the right with the loose ball falling to Saville, but he fired the ball against the post with Andreas Weimann firing the rebound over the bar.

In the eleventh minute the Blues went close when a fantastic pass from Cesc Fàbregas found Willian, who had just Carl Ikeme to beat but the keeper palmed the effort away before Willian’s rebound was tipped over the bar by the keeper.

In the 27th minute Wolves went close when Hélder Costa cut-inside before curling an effort that Asmir Begović saved with ease.

On the stroke of half-time the Blues had a good chance when Victor Moses beat his man before sending in a cross that Costa volleyed wide under-pressure.

After the hour-mark the Blues went close to taking the lead when Willian found Costa, who got the better of Danny Batth before firing just wide into the side-netting.

Four minutes later the visitors went ahead. Costa did well to initially find Eden Hazard, who then found Willian, whose pin-point cross was headed home by the arriving Pedro.

In the 84th minute Chelsea should have made it two when a Chelsea break saw Costa find Hazard, who pulled the ball back to Fàbregas, who looked set to score but his effort was blocked behind.

However the Blues doubled their lead five minutes later. After a pass from Fàbregas was intercepted, the loose ball ricocheted into the path of Costa, who fired home past Ikeme. It was also the striker’s 16th goal of the season.

Nathaniel Chalobah went close to a third in the second minute of injury-time when he received the ball on the edge of the area but he fired the ball just over the bar.

The result meant that Wolves bowed out of the competition whilst Chelsea progressed into the last-eight of the competition.
