S.S.C. Napoli vs Genoa C.F.C

Serie A

February 10th

Stadio San Paolo, Napoli, Italy

49′ Zieliński

67′ Giaccherini

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Napoli move back into second on 51 points whilst Genoa remain in 16th on 25 points before the rest of the weekend’s matches

FT: Genoa also created a few chances and tested Reina on a few occasions. First Hiljemark’s powerful drive was well-saved by Reina before Simeone’s header from an Orbán freekick tested the former Liverpool keeper.

FT: The hosts could have added a few more but they did make the breakthrough shortly after the break through Zieliński’s fine strike and Giaccherini’s tap-in after the hour-mark. They had other chances too. Diawara fired just wide after Mertens’ strike was parried by Lamanna before Insigne’s curling-effort was palmed away. Insigne then fired the ball over the bar after a fine cross-field pass from Reina before a Ghoulam freekick was palmed behind by Lamanna.

FT: So Napoli defeat a well-disciplined Genoa ahead of their Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

45′ Napoli get the second-half underway.

HT: So will Napoli break the deadlock or will Genoa frustrate the hosts and possibly get snatch something of their own? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Napoli have to be more clinical in front of goal as Genoa, despite rarely threatening Reina’s goal, have enough quality to make the Neapolitans rue their missed opportunities. Genoa have been forced into making two early substitutions but have defended well against a good and Napoli side, who haven’t got into their rhythm. They need to be able to hold-out for another 90+ minutes against a side who possess enough quality to change the complexion of the game. They also need to be more clinical in front of goal themselves if they are to grab more than just a point.

HT: The visitors haven’t really got going and haven’t created many chances but they have got into some promising positions. First Simeone fired an effort just over the bar from a tight-angle via a deflection before Rigoni’s effort from-range produced an easy save for Reina.

HT: The hosts had a number of chances in the first-half. First Koulibaly volleyed wide before Hamšík headed just wide at the near-post following a corner. Insigne forced Lamanna into a fine save before the winger fired wide under-pressure. Giaccherini had a good chance late-on but his effort was tame. The former Sunderland man thought he should have had a penalty earlier in the half but he went too ground too easily under a challenge from Gentiletti.

HT: So we’re goalless at the break with nothing to separate the two sides.
