90’+4′ Perišić Sent off
Juventus extended their lead by six points at the top of Serie A after defeating rivals Inter Milan 1-0 in the Derby D’Italia at the Juventus Stadium.
A spectacular Juan Cuadrado strike from-range on the stroke of half-time proved to be the winner for the Bianconeri against the Nerazzurri, who had Perišić sent off for dissent late-on.
Juventus started well and went close in the second minute when a Stephan Lichtsteiner cross was nodded down into the path of Paulo Dybala, whose acrobatic volley was palmed away by Samir Handanović.
Nine minutes later the hosts very nearly took the lead and Dybala was involved again. Miralem Pjanić teed up the Argentine, who curled a fantastic effort from-range that rattled the top of the crossbar with Handanović beaten.
In the 18th minute the visitors had a great chance when an Inter corner caused havoc. Two Inter players went down under challenges before the ball fell to Roberto Gagliardini but he fired the ball just over the bar on the half-volley.
Three minutes later the visitors went close again. João Mário received the ball just outside the area before firing an effort millimetres wide of the post with Gianluigi Buffon well-beaten.
In the 27th minute Gagliardini had another great chance for Inter when he met a Perišić cross but his header was straight at Buffon when he should have scored.
A minute later Gonzalo Higuaín met an Alex Sandro delivery but his miscued effort drifted just wide of the post.
In the 36th minute Inter went close when a Mário cross, following a corner, was met by Perišić with a header but Buffon palmed the ball away. From the same move, the visitors thought they should have had a penalty when Mauro Icardi was bundled over in the area by Mario Mandžukić but the referee was unmoved.
A minute later the hosts went close when a teasing delivery from Cuadrado was met by Mandžukić with a diving header but the Croat’s effort drifted just wide of the far-post.
A minute later the visitors had a good chance themselves when Icardi met a teasing delivery from Perišić but his effort drifted just wide.
Five minutes later the hosts went close to taking the lead when Pjanić curled a freekick towards the top-corner but Handanović palmed the effort behind.
The hosts took the lead from the resulting-corner, which was cleared to Cuadrado, who rifled home the ball from-range into the top-corner past Handanović.
Eight minutes into the second-half the hosts had a great chance to double their lead when Higuaín found Pjanić, who had just Handanović to beat, but his effort on the stretch was palmed behind well by the keeper.
Five minutes later Inter had a good chance when a Mário corner was met by Gagliardini but he headed the ball over the bar.
In the 77th minute Juventus went close when Dybala found Higuaín, who fired an effort on the turn that Handanović palmed away.
In the 86th minute the hosts went close to sealing the victory when a dangerous delivery from Khedira was met by Mandžukić, who headed an effort at goal that forced Handanović into a fine save with the keeper palming the ball over the bar.
In the final minute of injury-time Perišić received a straight red card for dissent as Juventus held-on.
The result meant that Juventus extended their lead at the top of Serie A by six points as they now moved onto 54 points whilst Inter remained in 5th on 42 points.
