Premier League

January 14th

King Power Stadium, Leicester, England

6′ Alonso

51′ Alonso

70′ Pedro

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Leicester remain in 15th on 21 points whilst Chelsea extend their lead at the top of the league to 52 points before the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.

FT: Leicester didn’t create enough clear-cut chances in the second-half with their best effort coming from Fuchs but it was straightforward for Courtois.

FT: It took Alonso six minutes to open the scoring in the first-half and it took him six minutes to do so in the second-half too, although the deflection helped him. Since then Chelsea were in total command and went close to adding to their tally with Cahill going close with an overhead kick before Alonso came within millimetres of completing his hat-trick with a well-executed volley. Pedro added a third after good work by Willian.

FT: So Chelsea extended their lead in the second-half to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

HT: Both sides have good options on the bench if required with Shinji Okazaki and Michy Batshuayi available. So will Leicester come back in this match or will Chelsea add to their tally? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Leicester have got into some nice positions but haven’t been able to get the better of Courtois. Albrighton has sent in some teasing deliveries too but the Chelsea defence have been equal to it. The Champions need to take their chances against the former Champions if they are to come back in this match. Chelsea have been sloppy in possession and have given the ball away on numerous occasions when in promising positions and will need to be more clinical if they are to seal victory.

HT: Chelsea have coped relatively well with the absence of Diego Costa and have worked the ball nicely and created a couple of good chances themselves. Their first real opportunity ended with the ball in the back of the net of Schmeichel’s goal. The visitors possibly should have doubled their lead just before the interval when Luiz’s nicely worked freekick allowed Hazard to find Pedro, but he could only fire wide.

HT: Leicester initially started well when Musa forced Courtois into a good save at his near-post in the opening minute, but the Foxes faded as Chelsea went ahead. However after the 15-minute mark the hosts were brought into life with Chilwell heading wide from an Albrighton cross. Courtois was also forced to produce heroics to palm away a teasing delivery from Vardy amid the sliding-legs of Luiz.

HT: So Chelsea lead at the break.
