Premier League

December 17th

Selhurst Park, London, England

0-1

43′ Costa

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Chelsea remain on top of the league as they now move onto 43 points whilst Crystal Palace remain in 16th on 15 points ahead of the rest of the weekend’s matches.

FT: The only blemish on Chelsea’s performance was the booking to Costa, which earned the striker a suspension – meaning he’ll miss their next match against Bournemouth.

FT: Palace did create a few opportunities of their own with Cabaye forcing Courtois into a fine save early into the second-period. Benteke also had a good chance on the turn but he miscued his volley, which Courtois saved with ease. Townsend fired a freekick over the bar late-on in what was quite a comfortable half for the Belgian goalkeeper.

FT: Chelsea created a number of chances in the second-half with Hennessey doing well to keep the scoreline low. The Welsh international made a number of fine saves from Kanté, Fàbregas and Alonso each on a couple of occasions to prevent the Blues from extending their lead. However Hennessey couldn’t do anything about Alonso’s freekick but the woodwork came to his rescue before Cahill’s tame header was saved by the keeper.

FT: So Chelsea extend their lead at the top of the league by nine points.

HT: So will Palace find a leveller or will Chelsea add to their tally? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Palace will need to get better service in towards Benteke as his aerial ability will provide a threat to the Blues. As for Chelsea, they need to be more clinical in front of goal with the final pass needing to be perfect. Costa also needs better service, as he’s found it difficult to get beyond Dann and Delaney, despite getting his goal.

HT: Palace have created a few chances, with Puncheon’s glaring miss after a fine pull-back from Kelly being their best opportunity. McArthur also went close with a header from another Kelly delivery before Puncheon curled a freekick over the bar. Their defence have been well-drilled for the majority of the first-half but Azpilicueta’s cross was brilliant and Dann couldn’t prevent Costa from heading home.

HT: The Blues have dominated the majority of the match but have had to ride their luck on a few occasions. Chelsea strung a number of fine passes together but the final pass had let them down on a number of occasions for instance when Kanté and Alonso tried to play Hazard and Willian through on-goal. Their best chances came from efforts from-range but Luiz and Azpilicueta couldn’t find the target. Nevertheless the Blues have the lead courtesy of a fine header from Costa, who had been quiet as a result of a lack of service.

HT: So Chelsea are ahead at the break.
