Premier League

December 11th

Stamford Bridge, London, England

1-0

76′ Costa

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Chelsea move back to the top of the league on 37 points whilst West Brom remain in eighth on 20 points before the rest of the weekend’s games. The victory was Chelsea’s ninth consecutive victory to equal their best winning run since 2009.

FT: Chelsea were frustrated for lengthy periods in the game and were mostly restricted to strikes from-range. Luiz went close when his deflected freekick was palmed behind by Foster before Costa’s goal. Alonso and Fàbregas also had chances later on with efforts but Chelsea will be happy to get all three points against a compact and well-drilled defence.

FT: West Brom didn’t take their chances in the first-half and were made to rue their missed opportunities as they created very few opportunities in the second-half. Before Chelsea’s goal, the Baggies went close when a Phillips cross found Rondón but the striker just couldn’t get enough on the ball. Dawson also fired an effort off-target, however an error from McAuley was capitalised on by Costa, who curled home terrifically.

FT: So Chelsea have managed to break down a throughly disciplined and well-drilled West Brom side and break the deadlock to regain top-spot.

HT: So will Chelsea open the scoring or will West Brom frustrate the Blues? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: West Brom will need to sustain their defensive work if they are to get at least a point from Stamford Bridge. If they are to get all three points they will need to give Rondón more service, the striker has done well to create some of his own chances and deal with Luiz.

HT: Chelsea haven’t got going against the Baggies, who have done well to get men behind the ball and deal with the Blues’ attacking threat. The Blues have lacked creativity and have delayed a number of passes to send Costa and Hazard through on-goal. Chelsea have Cesc Fàbregas on the bench and he may be summoned if things continue. The hosts have also looked a bit shaky in defence with Luiz finding it difficult to cope with Rondón.

HT: West Brom have had a number of decent chances. First Brunt headed an effort off-target at the near-post before he fired just wide from-range. Rondón also fired an effort inches wide of the far-post after getting the better of Luiz.

HT: The hosts have dominated the game but haven’t created many chances to threaten the West Brom goal. The closest they came was when a Kanté strike deflected just wide of the post. Luiz also went close with a freekick and Costa came within inches of connecting with a Pedro cross.

HT: So we’re goalless at the break with nothing to separate the two sides.
