UEFA Europa League

November 3rd

St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton, England

34′ Icardi

45’+3′ Tadić Penalty saved

63′ Van Dijk

68′ Nagatomo (OG)

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Southampton move into second on seven points whilst Inter Milan remain at the bottom of Group K on three points.

FT: Inter didn’t create many chances in the second-half but they did go close when Icardi forced Forster into a good save, it wasn’t enough though as they couldn’t repeat the result at the San Siro.

FT: The Saints started the second-half in the ascendancy and created a number of good chances with Handanović forced into action three times to first deny Romeu on the volley, then Ward-Prowse and then tipping over a Van Dijk header. He could do nothing about Van Dijk’s volley though as the Dutchman reacted quickest after Romeu hit the bar. The keeper was also helpless as was Nagatomo, for the second goal. The deflected cross ricocheted off the Japanese before making its way into the net. Redmond had a good chance to add a third when he cut-inside to fire just wide. Ultimately, Candreva’s yellow card and Tadić’s missed penalty didn’t prove to be costly.

FT: So Southampton come from behind to defeat Inter Milan.

HT: So will Southampton find a way back in this game or will Inter hold on and add to their tally? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: The Saints have Charlie Austin on the bench and it seems only a matter of time before he comes on. The hosts have to make their chances count given the number of chances they’ve created. The Italians have looked a threat on occasions and will need a second goal if they are to ensure the victory.

HT: The main talking-point of the first period was the penalty and the events that led up to the incident. The referee made two bad decisions, first of all with the penalty, which shouldn’t have been given as the ball hit Perišić’s arm, which was at a natural position. It was harsh but then Candreva deliberately elbowed McQueen only for the referee to book the Italian, who should have seen red. Eventually Tadić stepped up to see his poor spot-kick saved by the feet of Handanović.

HT: Inter have done pretty much the same as they did in the San Siro, created one chance and scored from it. They’ve been clinical and Southampton have been made to rue their missed opportunities. Icardi has looked a threat for the Italians but Van Dijk has done well to deny him on a few occasions.

HT: Just like the previous fixture between the two sides, the Saints created a number of good chances but haven’t made any of them count. Rodriguez has had a few chances alone; first he headed wide, then he fired just over the bar and then tested Handanović with a tame strike. Redmond had a good chance when he cut-inside but his shot was harmlessly wide. Romeu also went close when his deflected effort drifted just wide.

HT: So Inter lead at the break after a controversial final few minutes in the first-half.

45’+3′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to an end.

45’+3′ Penalty saved!! Tadić’s spot-kick is poor and saved by the feet of Handanović.

45′ Penalty!! Tadić’s delivery isn’t dealt with by the visitors but Højbjerg wins the ball and the ball deflects off the arm of Perišić. It’s very harsh on the Croatian. Meanwhile McQueen is caught in the face by Candreva, who elbowed the Saints full-back. The Italian receives a yellow card. Despite a harsh penalty-decision, the Italians are lucky not to be a man down.
