78′ Hernández

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Leverkusen moved into seventh on ten points whilst Dortmund failed to capitalise on Bayern Munich’s draw with Cologne to remain in third on 12 points before the rest of the weekend’s games. The victory was also Leverkusen’s first against Borussia Dortmund at home since 2007.

FT: Leverkusen were patient and awaited their turn to attack and caused a number of problems for Dortmund, who had committed too many players forward. This was demonstrated in Hernández’s goal, which was a classic counter-attack. Die Werkself had a number of other chances to seal the victory including Volland who evaded a number poor challenges before firing a tame effort at goal that Bürki saved with ease. Wendell also spurned a good chance when he shot wide of the goal with the outside of the foot.

FT: Dortmund didn’t create many clear-cut chances much to the credit of the Leverkusen defence, and when they did they weren’t very clinical in front of goal. When Aubameyang finally managed to evade the defence, his tame effort in the second-half was saved by Leno. He then failed to make contact with a Dembélé cross after Leno failed to palm the cross away.

FT: So Leverkusen added to their tally to earn a first home victory in the league against Dortmund since 2007.

45′ Dortmund get the second-half underway.

45′ During the interval both sides made changes with Wendell replacing Bender for the hosts and Marcel Schmelzer and Emre Mor replacing Castro and Pulisic for Dortmund.

HT: Dortmund need to get better service to Aubameyang, who has had to chase a number of loose passes and long-balls, if they are to come back in this game. Dembélé and Pulisic have also caused a few problems for the Leverkusen defence, but as of yet the hosts have dealt with the threat well. Leverkusen need to just continue to play as they have done in the first-half; be more clinical in promising attacking positions and defend well to claim all three points. So will Leverkusen add to their tally and hold on or will Dortmund find a way back in this game? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Leverkusen did go close to adding a second goal, first Kampl fired an effort inches wide of the top-corner from-range before Hernández struck the post, albeit from an offside position. The only aspect to worry about from a Leverkusen perspective is that they’ve picked up a number of bookings and their lack of discipline may prove costly against a quick Dortmund side, who like to break with pace on the counter-attack.

HT: Since going behind, Dortmund’s response was positive and they went close when Aubameyang was found by Piszczek, but the Gabonese forward could only find Leno’s gloves. Dembélé and Guerreiro have gone close on a few occasions with their shots from-range comfortable for Leno.

HT: The hosts have done well in this first-half and in the early stages, prevented Dortmund from playing the ball out from the back and in doing so, they have created a number of good chances. First Çalhanoğlu curled a freekick wide, then Hernández was denied by a good save from Bürki. However the Dortmund keeper could do nothing to stop Mehmedi from putting Leverkusen ahead.

HT: So Bayer Leverkusen are ahead at the break.
