UEFA Europa League

Group I

September 15th

Allianz Riviera, Nice, France

0-1

75′ Rahman

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Schale 04 climbed up to the top of Group I on three points and are joined by Krasnodar who defeated Red Bull Salzburg. Nice remained bottom of the table behind Salzburg, who like the French side, begin the campaign without a point.

FT: Schalke 04 should have sealed the victory late into added-time when Choupo-Moting fired an effort against the post after Cardinale palmed Meyer’s effort into the Cameroonian international’s path, but it didn’t matter in the end.

FT: Schalke 04 did go close to extending their lead when Meyer fired an effort into the side-netting, but they were hanging on in the latter moments of the game. Naldo’s challenge to deflect Balotelli’s effort was crucial as the Italian looked certain to score the leveller but Fährmann made a good save.

FT: The visitors dominated possession throughout the game and had a number of opportunities to take the lead but Cardinale did well to keep the French side in the game, denying Goretzka on countless occasions, before making good saves to keep out efforts from Naldo and Meyer. However, he was to be beaten at his near-post after a ferocious drive from Rahman.

FT: So Schalke have narrowly defeated their Group I opponents.

45′ Nice get the second-half underway.

HT: So will Nice improve and take the lead or will Schalke make their dominance count and take the lead themselves? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Balotelli has been rather quiet for the hosts and hasn’t received enough support. Schöpf has caused problems for the French side and got into some good positions but despite his creativity, the scoreline remains goalless.

HT: Nice have been rather disappointing in truth. They’ve barely got out of their own half and when they have, they’ve lost possession far too easily. They haven’t created many chances and their only sight of goal was when a Cyprien effort from-range flew into Row Z.

HT: In a half of very few chances, the visitors have gone close on a handful of occasions. The closest they came was when Cardinale made a fine double-save to deny Goretzka and when Schöpf curled an effort just wide of the post.

HT: So we’re goalless at the break with nothing to separate the two sides.
