Thanks for joining us.
FT: The result means that Belgium go second in Group E with three points, behind Italy on six points whilst the Republic of Ireland are bottom on one point behind Sweden on goal difference, who are also on one point. Sweden play Belgium next whilst the Republic of Ireland play Italy.
FT: The Republic of Ireland started the second-period much better than they started the first-half, but Belgium broke and the Irish momentum was halted. The Republic of Ireland didn’t trouble Courtois who was rarely tested. Once Belgium went ahead they looked fairly comfortable and the Republic of Ireland didn’t have a response.
FT: The game could have been different had the referee awarded the Republic of Ireland a penalty when Long was caught by a high foot from Alderweireld seconds before Lukaku put Belgium ahead, however Belgium were too dominant and took advantage of some shoddy Irish defending and deserved the victory.
FT: So Belgium comfortably beat the Republic of Ireland.

46′ Brady wins a freekick in a good position.
45′ The Republic of Ireland get the second-half underway.
HT: So will Belgium go ahead or will the Republic of Ireland frustrate the Belgians and get a goal themselves? Join us again for the second-half.
HT: Neither keeper has truly been tested. Belgium have played like they did against Italy but again they’ve been frustrated by the Irish defence who have defended well. Long has been working very hard, chasing a number of balls down the line and putting the Belgian defenders under-pressure, but they haven’t really given the Southampton forward the support and service he deserves. It’s a similar scenario for Lukaku, who has barely been in the game and the Belgian players need to give him the service he deserves if he is to put his side ahead.
HT: The Republic o Ireland haven’t really got going with a Long header the closest they’ve come. Belgium have gone close with Hazard firing over the bar and an Alderweireld header cleared off the line.
HT: So we’re goalless at the break with Belgium dominating the possession and creating a host of chances but so far there is nothing to separate the two sides.
