UEFA Euro 2016

Group F

June 14th

Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Saint-Étienne, France

1-1

31′ Nani

50′ Bjarnason

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Iceland go joint second with Portugal with a point, behind Hungary in first who have three points. Austria are bottom without a point.

FT: Lacklustre defending from Vierinha has cost Portugal who was ball-watching instead of defending and it was his error that allowed Bjarnason to sneak in and fire home. Portugal were denied a number of times much to the credit of the Iceland defence and goalkeeper who made a number of fine saves.

FT: So Iceland have frustrated Portugal and managed to get a point. The tournament newcomers defended resolutely and were in inspiring form. Portugal dominated possession sharing 72% of it and having 28 attempts, however they weren’t clinical enough and Iceland took their chance and possibly could have stole it with Finnbogason.

45′ Portugal get the second-half underway.

HT: So will Portugal get another or will Iceland get back into the game? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Iceland have seen very little of the ball but look dangerous from set-pieces and should they win a freekick in a good position, Sigurdsson could be a threat.Portugal need to keep up this momentum if they are to win this game.

HT: Portugal have dominated the possession and could have had two or three. Nani should have scored an earlier header from close-range and had Ronaldo made contact with a volley, it could have been curtains early on.

HT: So Portugal lead at the break thanks to Nani’s goal, although it could have been so different had Sigurdsson stuck away his earlier chance.
