UEFA Euro 2016

Group D

June 12th

Parc des Princes, Paris, France

0-1

41′ Modrić

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Croatia top Group D with three points whilst Turkey move to the bottom before the rest of teams in the group have played.

FT: Turkey had a few chances to get an equaliser and at one stage Turkey could have gone ahead with Tufan’s header. They didn’t create enough chances in the end unlike Croatia who deserve the victory.

FT: So Croatia hold onto their lead to take all three points. Modrić’s fantastic volley has got Croatia’s European Championship campaign up and running. Croatia had a number of chances to extend their lead and on another day it may have cost them, but in the end it didn’t really matter.

47′ Chance!! Çalhanoğlu pulls the ball back to substitute Şen on the volley but his effort is charged down.

45′ Croatia get the second-half underway.

HT: First Turkey change during the interval sees Volkan Şen replace Özyakup.

HT: Modrić’s fantastic goal has put Croatia in front although there are question marks on the keeper’s position. So will Croatia add to their tally or will Turkey repeat what they did in the 2008 Quarter-final and deny Croatia the win? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Rakitić hasn’t been involved very much as of yet but Modrić has been playing well and controlled the game. Srna and Perišić have produced some dangerous deliveries but Brozović has squandered a number of good opportunities. Turkey have done well too and possibly should have gone ahead earlier when Tufan’s header forced Subašić into a good save when he really should have scored.

HT: So Croatia are ahead. The Croats have deserved the lead in truth, they’ve enjoyed more of the possession  and created more chances and have been rewarded with Modrić’s fine volley.
