England vs Turkey

International Friendly

May 22nd

Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England

3′ Kane

13′ Çalhanoğlu

71′ Kane Missed Penalty

83′ Vardy

Thanks for joining us.

FT: England know they have tougher tests to come and were rather fortunate to have got the result today. Turkey performed really well against a good opposition and will look to replicate similar performances ahead of the Euros in a few weeks time.

FT: England could have made the result more flattering with Kane but he missed his penalty however his early goal, that shouldn’t have counted, has helped the Three Lions get the win.

FT: So a defensive mishap from the Turkish defence has gifted Vardy and England the winner in this tightly contested match. The hosts were poor by their usual standards despite not having Wayne Rooney on the pitch and can be deemed fortunate to not have lost this game given the number of opportunities created by Turkey.

90’+5′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the match to an end.

90′ There will be three additional minutes.

45′ Çalhanoğlu is down and is receiving treatment after a challenge from Dier prior to Alli’s effort.

45′ Chance!! A deflected drive from Alli falls to the fortunate Babacan.

45′ Turkey get the second-half underway.

HT: So will England find another and hold on or will Turkey get their first ever victory over England? Changes will be needed for sure. Join us again for the second-half.

HT: England have been quite poor in truth and have relied on efforts from-range to beat Babacan but so far the Turkish keeper hasn’t had a lot to do. A few players have looked positive going forward but look a mess defensively with Rose and Walker both caught napping for Turkey’s goal.

HT: Since Turkey went behind they’ve looked positive and they were rewarded with their goal, the first goal Turkey have scored in eleven attempts. Hart has been tested on one occasion but the visitors have looked comfortable.

HT: So level at the break. England have been rather fortunate to be level after their opener was actually offside and since then they haven’t created many chances with efforts from Kane and Wilshere testing Babacan.

45’+1′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to an end.

45’+1′ Chance!! Alli finds Vardy who fires harmlessly off-target.

13′ Goal!!  Şen is played through and Hart tries to come out and smother the ball but the Turkey man pulls the ball back to Çalhanoğlu who fires home past two men on the line. We have a game on our hands.

12′ Kane’s delivery is dangerous but it evades everyone and goes out for a goalkick.

11′ Alli is caught late and wins a freekick in a good position.

10′ Vardy just miscues a cross with his attempt going harmlessly behind for a goalkick.
