0-2

36′ Sanches Sent off (Second bookable offence)

48′ Mitroglou

83′ Talisca

89′ Fransérgio Sent off (Second bookable offence)

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Marítimo remain in 12th on 35 points whilst Benfica go back to the top on 85 points.

FT: In the end Sanches’ dismissal ultimately didn’t make much of a difference with Mitroglou giving the Eagles the lead after taking advantage of a loose pass from Soares and Talisca sealing the victory with a fine freekick.

FT: The hosts couldn’t make use of the extra man and eventually lost their discipline with Fransérgio receiving a second yellow card.

FT: The hosts had the ball in the back of the net, but the linesman correctly ruled it out for offside as Djoussé was clearly active.

FT: Despite going down to ten-men the visitors were the much better side and possibly could have had another two or three goals with Jonas and Jiménez hitting the bar. Salin made some fine saves to deny Pizzi a sure goal in the second-period and Jonas in the first-half.

FT: So Benfica have managed to beat the Madeiran side the hard way, although the scoreline made it look rather comfortable in the end.

90′ So close!! Pizzi finds Jiménez  with a low cross but his flicked effort clips the bar with Salin beaten.

90′ There will be ten additional minutes.

89′ Dismissal!! Fransérgio receives a second yellow card for a late challenge on Samaris.

86′ The corner is cleared before Deyvison cynically fouls Talisca to receive a yellow card.

79′ Second Benfica change sees Jonas replaced by Andreas Samaris.

78′ Disallowed goal!! The hosts think they’re level as Deyvison’s header goes all the way through, but Djoussé is in an offside position and is therefore active and the goal is chalked off.

74′ Almeida wins a freekick.

72′ The corner is cleared before Diogo cynically fouls Pizzi to receive a yellow card.

71′ Chance!! Diogo fires a deflected effort that looks to be going wide but Ederson decides to push it away.

68′ Close!! Jonas fires an effort from-range that forces Salin into a fine save, then the keeper makes a terrific reaction save from Pizzi’s follow-up. The Portuguese midfielder really should have doubled his side’s lead.

59′ Antônio has to be replaced and is carried on a stretcher before getting on-board an ambulance. Deyvison comes on in his place. We wish Antônio all the best on his recovery.

53′ The corner comes to nothing and there is a delay in the game as Antônio is down and possibly unconscious after a clash of heads with Jardel. Medical stuff are rushed onto the pitch.

52′ A deflected Jonas cross goes behind for a corner despite Salin’s efforts to keep the ball in play.

51′ The corner is cleared.

51′ The hosts concede a cheap corner.

48′ Goal!! After Almeida’s pass is cut out, Soares inadvertently plays the ball back into the path of Mitroglou who sends Salin the wrong way to put the side with ten-men ahead.

45′ The hosts get the game underway.

HT: So will Marítimo hold on and possibly go for all three points with the man advantage or will Benfica go all guns blazing in search for the three points? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: The visitors will need to be very brave if they are to win this crucial game knowing that a point won’t be enough as Sporting will have the advantage based on head-to-head.

HT: Since going a man down the visitors have gone close with Mitroglou shooting off-target on separate occasions. The hosts have done well to hang on as of yet with Carcela-González having his effort cleared off the line.

HT: The main talking-point in the first-half was the dismissal of Sanches. The youngster was harshly awarded a booking after he went down under a challenge from Plessis and then was shown a second yellow card for a challenge on Djoussé. The Benfica man should have known better, given he was already booked, although the youngster can feel hard done-by after Plessis challenge was poor and should have been a penalty despite the lack of contact.

HT: The visitors have had the better chances with Jonas rattling the bar with a fine strike outside the area. The Brazilian was also denied by Salin who made a great save from the former Valencia man’s header. The hosts have had a few efforts mainly from-range but Ederson has rarely been tested.

HT: So goalless at the break with ten-men Benfica utterly dominating possession and hitting the woodwork.

39′ Chance!! Jonas finds Carcela-González who cuts inside before curling an effort over the bar.

36′ Dismissal!! Sanches receives a second yellow card for a poor challenge on Djoussé. It was a deserved yellow card but given he received a harsh first yellow card for an apparent dive, it was unfortunate on the youngster.

35′ Djoussé is back on the pitch.

35′ Jonas is caught offside.

34′ Djoussé has to leave the pitch on a stretcher.

33′ Slight delay in the match as Djoussé is down with an injury.
