UEFA Champions League

Semi-final, Second-leg

May 3rd

Allianz-Arena, Munich, Germany

(Aggregate: 2-2)

30′ Alonso

34′ Müller Penalty saved

54′ Griezmann

74′ Lewandowski

84′ Torres Penalty saved

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result mean that Atlético progressed into the Final whilst Bayern bowed out in the semi-final for the third consecutive season.

FT: In the end Müller’s missed penalty proves to be costly as Bayern needed just one more goal.

FT: The hosts had chances to score with Coman and Alaba’s deflected effort forcing Oblak into good saves.

FT: The visitors scored after the break thanks to a wonderful counter-attack and it looked to be curtains for the hosts. However the hosts had a host of chances in the second period with Lewandowski going close and were rewarded for the dominance in possession when Vidal teed up his Polish teammate to reduce .

FT: The visitors could have made it three after a controversial penalty was saved by Neuer, but it couldn’t prevent Atlético from winning the match

FT: So Atlético book their place in the Champions League Final. They’ve had to do it the hard way, conceding in the first-half and then surviving when Oblak saved a penalty.

90’+5′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the match to an end.

87′ Luís concedes a corner.

84′ Penalty saved!! Neuer guesses right to palm the effort away!! Identical penalties and both times the keepers have dived to their right to deny the takers. He could have put the tie to bed.

83′ Penalty!! Torres is bundled over by Martínez. The challenge looks outside the area but the referee points to the spot. Martínez receives a yellow card for the challenge.

82′ Close!! Coman cuts inside before unleashing a strike that’s easy for Oblak.

81′ Second Atlético change sees Griezmann depart for Thomas Partey.

80′ Coman wins a freekick.

72′ Bayern’s first change sees Costa depart for Kingsley Coman.

69′ Close!! Vidal finds Lewandowski after a nice give-and-go and he volleys an effort that Oblak gathers at the second-attempt. His volley lacked conviction otherwise Oblak would have been in trouble.

66′ Close!! Alonso fires an effort from-range but Oblak makes a good diving save.

65′ Ferreira-Carrasco does well beating a few Bayern players before winning a freekick.

63′ The corner is cleared before Martínez heads over the bar.

54′ Goal!! The visitors break and Griezmann exchanges a lovely give-and-go with Torres who plays the Frenchman through on-goal after the former Real Sociedad winger timed his run to perfection and he slots home beating Neuer at his near-post. Bayern need to two now!!

49′ Koke wins a freekick.

49′ The corner comes to nothing.

49′ Ferreira-Carrasco concedes a corner.

47′ Neuer claims the delivery with ease.

46′ Vidal is penalised for sliding in on Ferreira-Carrasco. Good position this for the visitors.

45′ The hosts get the second-half underway.

45′ The visitors make their first change during the break with Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco replacing Fernández.

HT: So will Bayern go on and get another goal to put the tie to bed or will it be Atlético to steal an away goal and win the game? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: The visitors will need to change drastically as they haven’t really made it past the opposition’s half. Torres and Griezmann have barely got a touch on the ball and unless the visitors start to adopt their usual pressing tactics, it would be difficult to see them having a chance in the game.

HT: Nevertheless it was awarded and Müller’s spot-kick was terrifically denied by Oblak who guessed right.

HT: The main talking-point of the first-half was the penalty which Martínez won after he was fouled by Giménez during a corner. The decision was a good one by the referee although, it could be argued that Martínez had pulled the shirt of the Atlético man first and that there’s always pushing and shoving in the penalty area for set-pieces and it’s rare for the officials to give one decision when they haven’t done so for other scenarios in the match.

HT: The visitors have had a few efforts on goal but Neuer hasn’t really be threatened.

HT: The hosts have dominated the possession as expected but despite not making many clear-cut chances, they have the lead thanks to a deflected Alonso freekick. They’ve had a few chances with Müller electing to find Lewandowski instead of shooting himself and Ribéry forcing Oblak into a good diving save. However, most of their efforts have been restricted from-range.

HT: So the Bavarians are back in the game and are level with a huge slice of luck.

45’+1′ The refere blows his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to an end.

45′ Juanfran wins a freekick in his own half after a foul from Alaba.

45′ There will be one additional minute.

43′ Lewandowski is penalised for a foul.

42′ Lewnadowski is caught offside.

35′ The corner comes to nothing.

34′ Penalty saved!! Oblak palms the effort away!! Müller stutters in the run-up and Oblak isn’t fooled guessing right to palm the effort away before the rebound by Alonso is blocked behind by Oblak .

32′ Penalty!! Giménez is penalised for holding on to Martínez. Six of one, half a dozen!!

32′ Ribéry wins a corner.

31′ The corner comes to nothing.

31′ Lewandowski wins a corner although the ball looked to have come off him last.

30′ Goal!! Alonso’s freekick takes a cruel deflection off Giménez in the wall and it wrong-foots Oblak to level the tie.

25′ Koke wins a corner for the visitors.

25′ Juanfran wins a freekick after a challenge from Alaba.

23′ Close!! The visitors clear the initial danger before Ribéry fires a swerving strike that Oblak can’t hold onto and Lewandowski fires the follow-up over the bar, before going down under a challenge from Oblak. It would be harsh to give a penalty for that.

22′ Lewandowski fires an effort that blocks off Godín and goes out for a corner.

19′ Close!! Müller times his run to perfection and is through on-goal but instead tries to find Lewandowski who forces Oblak into a good save with his feet from a tight-angle. Müller should have gone himself.
