Liga NOS

April 30th

Estádio do Dragão, Porto, Portugal

23′ Slimani

35′ Herrera (P)

44′ Slimani

85′ César

Thanks for joining us.

FT: In the end, Sporting triumphed and now remain in second on 80 points, moving to within two points of Benfica, whilst Porto remain in third on 67 points.

FT: Porto struck the woodwork twice and it just summed up their luck when Aboubakar was denied a stone-wall penalty.

FT: The scoreline didn’t reflect the complexion of the game with Porto having the better chances but Sporting were more clinical and in the end it was Porto’s defensive errors that were punished by Slimani and a poor mistake from Casillas made sure of the result.

FT: So Sporting do the double against Porto this season.

90’+4′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the match to an end.

90’+3′ Final Sporting change sees Paulo Oliveira replace Mário.

90’+1′ Chance!! A cross-come-shot from Angel forces Patrício to parry the ball at his near-post.

90′ Chance!! Aboubakar fires wide on the slide but he’s just offside.

90′ There will be three additional minutes.

89′ Second Sporting change sees Ruiz replaced by Gelson Martins.

87′ Brahimi receives a yellow card for a late challenge on César.

85′ Goal!! Mário finds César who fires an effort that squirms under Casillas who makes a hash of the effort and he can’t prevent it from going over the line.

84′ Awaziem has to be replaced and André Silva comes on.

83′ Slight delay as Awaziem is down with an injury.

79′ First Sporting change sees Bruno César replace Gutiérrez.

79′ Mário wins a freekick.

78′ Schelotto receives yellow card for a late nasty challenge.

77′ The corner comes to nothing.

77′ Silva’s effort is blocked behind for a corner.

76′ Ruiz wins a freekick in a good position.

74′ Varela loses possession and cynically fouls Mário.

74′ Schelotto concedes another corner.

73′ Close!! Herrera’s freekick is palmed behind by Patrício.

72′ Herrera wins a freekick in a good position and Silva receives a yellow card.

69′ Chance!! Awaziem meets the delivery but he can only head over from close-range.

69′ The hosts win a corner.

68′ Close!! A fine save denies Slimani a hat-trick. The Algerian meets the corner with a header before Casillas claws it away from goal.

67′ Second Porto change sees Corona depart for Silvestre Varela.

67′ Chance!! Mário looks set to make it three but André makes a fine challenge to deny the winger.

66′ Penalty appeal!! Aboubakar goes down under a clear shove from Coates who should be walking. Astonishingly the referee plays on.

65′ Ruiz wins a freekick.

63′ Martins Indi loses possession and Mário receives the ball to fire an effort into the arms of Casillas.

61′ Schelotto wins a freekick.

60′ First Porto change sees André André replace Oliveira.

52′ Mário overhits a cross.

51′ Chance!! Oliveira fires an effort over the bar.

49′ So close!! Oliveira curls a fantastic freekick that rattles the bar with Patrício beaten. That’s twice the woodwork has come to Sporting’s rescue.

48′ Pereira wins a freekick in a good position.

47′ Slimani catches Pereira with a flailing arm. The Algerian has got that in him but he escapes any punishment.

46′ Close!! Pereira forces Patrício into a good save at his near post after good work from Corona.

46′ Close!! The hosts lose possession and Slimani fires an effort from-range but Casillas makes a comfortable save.

45′ The hosts get the game underway.

HT: So will Porto get back in this one or will Sporting hold on to their lead and close Benfica’s gap? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Slimani has been the difference but Porto’s defence may as well have their names on the scoresheet for the part they played in each goal.

HT: The penalty was controversial. There looked as though there was contact from Coates who tried to remove his leg and Brahimi went over it. Simulation or making the most of minimal contact? Nevertheless Herrera capitalised.

HT: Sporting have gone close too with Casillas preventing Slimani from adding a second before Porto’s penalty.

HT: The game could have been so different had Herrera scored earlier when he struck the woodwork and Aboubakar shooting off-target before Sporting took the lead.

HT: So Sporting lead at the break thanks to Slimani who has taken advantage of some incredibly poor defending from Martins Indi and Awaziem.

45′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to an end.

44′ Goal!! Ruiz sends in a terrific delivery and Slimani meets it to head powerfully beyond Casillas.

42′ Gutiérrez wins a freekick.

40′ Pereira catches Silva.

39′ Gutiérrez is caught offside.

38′ Oliveira wins a freekick in the attacking half.

37′ Porto deserve to be level, they’ve had the better chances and were undone thanks to some poor defensive worked from Awaziem, but they’ve looked the better side since Sporting’s opener.

36′ Chance!! Brahimi finds Herrera who’s in space he surges forward before firing just wide of the near post.

35′ Goal!! Herrera sends Patrício the wrong way to level the scores.

32′ Penalty!! Coates brings Brahimi down. Looks like the Algerian had dived but there was slight contact. In fact the referee looked as though he was going to book the Algerian for simulation but Coates is booked.

31′ Close!! Schelotto sends in dangerous cross into the unmarked Slimani who forced Casillas into a great reaction save with Awaziem at fault yet again.

30′ The freekick comes to nothing as Awaziem is penalised for a foul.

29′ Brahimi wins a freekick in a promising position.

28′ Corona sends in a dangerous cross in towards Aboubakar but Patrício claims.

24′ Aboubakar is penalised for a foul.

23′ Goal!! Mário gets past Angel with a bit of fortune and he finds Slimani who is left by Awaziem to tap in against the run of play.

20′ Herrera is caught offside.

17′ Chance!! Aboubakar gets onto Corona’s header and volleys just wide of the target.

16′ The corner is met by Slimani but it’s comfortable for Casillas.

16′ Pereira concedes a corner.

12′ Aboubakar is penalised for an apparent foul on Coates. Again it was rather soft. He would have been away.

11′ Awaziem overhits a pass towards Brahimi.

5′ So close!! Angel sends in a dangerous cross that is met by Herrera whose effort hits the post and Aboubakar can’t follow up as Patrício gathers the loose ball.

4′ Chance!! Casillas’ punch is sent back into the area and Mário volleys over from close-range but he was offside.

4′ Schelotto wins a freekick.

3′ The corner is cleared.

3′ The visitors win a corner.
