A.S. Roma vs S.S.C. Napoli

as romnapoli

Serie A

April 25th

Stadio Olimpico, Roma, Italy

1-0

89′ Nainggolan

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Roma move to within two points of Napoli, who remain in second on 73 points with the title conceded to Juventus.

FT: It was inevitable that whilst looking for a goal themselves they would leave holes in the back and Roma capitalised with the inspiration of veteran forward Totti who played a part in the goal.

FT: The visitors grew into the game in the second-half and went close with Mertens bending an effort wide and Higuaín denied again by Szczęsny. However they didn’t create enough clear-cut chances and although Roma didn’t test Reina much either, they were more clinical and deserved the win on the balance of play.

FT: So Nainggolan’s late strike ensures that Juventus are champions for the fifth consecutive season and ends Napoli’s title hopes.

90’+3′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the game to an end.

90′ There will be three additional minutes.

90′ Final Napoli change sees Manolo Gabbiadini replace Jorginho.

86′ Chance!! Insigne cuts inside to slice an effort wide.

85′ Chance!! Hamšík finds López who fires an effort over the bar under-pressure from Zukanović.

83′ The corner comes to nothing.

82′ Chance!! Insigne’s delivery causes havoc for Szczęsny who spills the ball just ahead of Higuaín and the ball falls invitingly to Hamšík but Rüdiger makes a terrific last-ditch challenge to deny Napoli their much-needed goal. Corner for Napoli.

80′ Final Roma change sees Francesco Totti replace El Shaarawy.

78′ Second Napoli change sees David López replace Allan.

76′ Higuaín is penalised for backing into Keita.

73′ First Napoli change sees Mertens depart for Lorenzo Insigne.

73′ Jorginho goes into the book for a late cynical challenge on Salah.

72′ Close!! The corner by Jorginho is tipped over by Szczęsny.

72′ Close!! Maicon fails to deal with a deflected Callejón cross and Higuaín nips in to fire an effort that is blocked by a combination of Szczęsny and Maicon before the Polish keeper tips the ball away after Maicon almost passes the ball back to the keeper.

70′ The corner comes to nothing.

69′ El Shaarawy looks to be away but Albiol makes a fine last ditch-challenge to deny the Italian striker and concede a corner.

61′ Digne fouls Callejón.

59′ Chance!! Maicon does well to get down the right flank after a nice one-two but his cross-come-shot was just tipped away by Reina – evading El Shaarawy.

57′ Not much happening as of yet with both sides giving possession away.

51′ Chance!! Keita fires an effort over the bar after a cut-back from Salah.

50′ Nainggolan clears the corner.

48′ Chance!! Hamšík receives the ball down the left but his deflected effort is easy for Szczęsny.

47′ Delay over.

46′ Rüdiger receives a yellow card for a challenge on behind with Mertens. The Roma man did actually take the ball. The Beligan man is still down.

45′ The hosts get the second-half underway.

45′ Roma make their second change. During the break Florenzi departs for Maicon.

HT: So will Napoli get the win they so desperately need or will Roma frustrate the visitors and crown Juventus? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: The hosts have dominated the possession but haven’t really tested Reina with Salah’s drive a comfortable save for the Spaniard.

HT: The visitors nearly took the lead with Higuaín but he was denied terrifically by Szczęsny.

HT: Mertens looked a threat for Napoli and went close when he dragged wide. The visitors thought they took the lead when Callejón looked to have breached the Roma defence from a Mertens pass to slot home but he was denied by the linesman’s flag.

HT: The visitors could have fallen behind within the first minute when Salah volleyed just wide of the top-corner.

HT: So goalless at the break. Napoli need a win to temporarily prevent Juventus from winning the league but anything but a victory will crown the Turin outfit.

45’+3′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to an end.

45’+1′ Chance!! Higauín finds Hamšík after Callejón lets the ball run and he fires the ball over the bar.

37′ Pjanić cynically brings Mertens down to earn himself a yellow card.

31′ Chance!! Salah strikes an effort that lacks conviction and Reina saves with ease.

30′ The corner is eventually dealt with by the visitors.

29′ Nainggolan wins a corner.

29′ Close!! Higuaín expertly controls a high ball forward before cutting inside, he looks set to score but Szczęsny smothers the effort with a strong right arm. Great play from both parties.

28′ Florenzi has to go off to receive the all-clear. He’s back on the pitch now.

27′ Florenzi is down after a coming together with Ghoulam. The Roma man is receiving treatment.

25′ Disallowed goal!! Mertens wonderfully finds Callejón who looks be through and the Spaniard slots home but it’s chalked off for offside. It was marginal again but the linesman doesn’t give the former Real Madrid winger the benefit of the doubt. Lovely move from the visitors.

21′ Jorginho wins a freekick after a late challenge from Pjanić.

18′ Manolas is back on the pitch now.

17′ Manolas has to go off the pitch to receive the all-clear.

16′ Manolas is down and receives treatment.

15′ Manolas is caught by Higuaín’s flailing arm and the Roma players want a booking for the Argentine. The Napoli striker was sent off against Udinese for a second yellow for that sort of act, but this looked very accidental in truth.
