UEFA Champions League
Parc des Princes, Paris, France
12′ Ibrahimović penalty saved
38′ De Bruyne
Thanks for joining us.
FT: So the result means that PSG will travel to the Etihad for the second-leg, a match in which they will need to score, whereas Man City will come back home with the away goal advantage, meaning a goalless or 1-1 draw will see them go through automatically.
FT: City will be the happier side, taking two precious away goals although the French side were relatively poor missing key chances as well as a penalty earlier in the game.
FT: Poor defensive errors have cost both sides from taking the lead in the tie, particularly Fernando’s error and Aurier’s poor clearance.
FT: So the French champions are held to 2-2 draw thanks to some lacklustre defending from Aurier, although the English side can feel unfortunate to not have remained ahead.
90’+3′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the first-leg to an end.
90’+2′ Final City change sees Agüero depart for Aleksandar Kolarov.
90′ Chance!! Moura fires an effort over the bar.
90′ There will be three additional minutes.
87′ Second City change sees Wilfried Bony come on for Silva.
84′ Navas goes into the book for a foul on Cavani.
82′ Mangala goes into the book for a challenge from behind on Matuidi.
79′ The corner comes to nothing.
79′ Fernando concedes a corner.
77′ Changes for both sides sees Fabian Delph come on for De Bruyne and Gregory Van Der Wiel and Lucas Moura come on for Aurier and Rabiot.
72′ Goal!! Aurier makes a hash of clearance from a cross from the right, it falls to Fernandinho whose effort deflects off Thiago Silva and bundles home to put City level again. Well then, this game isn’t over.
70′ The corner comes to nothing.
70′ City win a corner.
66′ Chance!! Navas bursts forward before firing an effort harmlessly wide.
61′ So close!! Di María crosses into Ibrahimović whose effort via a deflection clips the underside of the bar before Cavani’s acrobatic volley into the ground clears the bar. City hanging on.
60′ Goal!! The corner is met by Cavani his effort is palmed away well by Hart but only into the path of Rabiot slots home on the follow-up. Ibrahimović was actually in an offside position and it can be argued that he was interfering with play as Hart palmed the ball away under-pressure from the Sweden international.
58′ Chance!! A dangerous cross is just deflected away as Cavani’s effort goes behind off Otamendi.
55′ Close!! Silva cuts-inside to curl an effort that is comfortable for Trapp.
54′ Chance!! The corner is played into the path of Luiz, but the ball just evades the Brazilian’s head.
54′ The hosts win a corner.
52′ Chance!! Aurier loses possession and the ball is eventually worked to Fernandinho, but his effort is dragged harmlessly wide.
49′ Chance!! Maxwell drives a cross into Cavani, who heads over. Difficult chance given it came to the Uruguayan quickly.
48′ Otamendi catches Ibrahimović in the offensive half.
47′ Matuidi catches Otamendi and receives a yellow card for his troubles. He’ll miss the second-leg. Again, there wasn’t much in that.
46′ Ibrahimović is caught offside.
45′ The hosts get the second-half underway.
HT: So will PSG take their chances and make the visitors pay or will City come away with the win? Join us again for the second period.
HT: City are incredibly unfortunate to not be ahead at the break after Fernando’s involvement in the first, which they should have held on to. However, his poor touch resulted in Ibrahimović finding the leveller before the break.
HT: Ibrahimović has had a host of chances other than the penalty, firing wide when played clean through and heading an effort into the arms of Hart.
HT: Their goal came after PSG had two penalty shouts. One that was given and one that wasn’t. The one that wasn’t could have resulted with Mangala being sent off, but the one that was given was a soft decision and justice was served when Ibrahimović’s effort was palmed away by Hart.
HT: What an entertaining first-half. City have played surprisingly well and have had a handful of chances with Silva going close before Fernando did well to find De Bruyne who put City ahead.
45’+1′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to an end.
45’+1′ Chance!! Matuidi is played in acres of space, he has Cavani free in the middle but his execution for the final pass is overhit and the chance goes begging.
45′ There will be one additional minute.
41′ Goal!! Calamitous goal!! Fernando goes from hero to villain, he receives a pass from Hart but his touch is poor, he’s caught in two minds and Ibrahimović seizes the opportunity to block Fernando’s pass and the ball ricochets in with Hart off-his-line. Wow!!
38′ Goal!! A poor pass from Matuidi is seized upon by City, Fernando surges forward before finding De Bruyne with the pass just out of Luiz’s reach, the Belgian takes a touch before firing across Trapp.
36′ Di María takes it instead but it hits the wall again.
34′ Luiz wins a freekick after a poor late challenge from Fernando. There’s a yellow card for Fernando. Again, Luiz played for the foul, going down before he was touched. Better opportunity for Ibrahimović.
32′ Ibrahimović’s effort hits the wall.
31′ Cavani wins a freekick from Silva. The Uruguayan made the most of that challenge. Good position this for the hosts and Ibrahimović.
25′ Silva wins a corner for the visitors.
23′ Chance!! Ibrahimović is played clean-through after Otamendi loses possession but with just Hart to beat he blazes over. Should have hit the target at the very least. Shocking miss given the quality of the player.
20′ Chance!! Navas wonderfully finds Silva with a cross but the ball is slightly behind his compatriot and he heads wide. Should have scored.
14′ Close!! An Aurier cross is met by Ibrahimović, but his header is saved and grasped at the second attempt by Hart.
12′ Penalty saved!! Hart guessing right and palms the effort behind for a corner. Justice has been served.
11′ Penalty!! Di María’s volleyed cross is miscontrolled by Sagna and Luiz is onto the loose ball before he goes to ground under the trailing leg of the Frenchman and the referee points to the spot. Looked like the Brazilian made contact with Sagna’s leg rather than the Frenchman making contact with Luiz. The Brazilian was looking for that. In England that would be a yellow card and if that was the case here, Luiz would be walking.
10′ Aurier is caught late by Clichy and the Frenchman receives a yellow card. Chance for the hosts to create something here.
8′ Chance!! Di María does well to control a long-ball forward but his effort is sliced harmlessly wide.
6′ Penalty appeal!! The hosts breaks from the corner and Matuidi is played through by Cavani, but the Frenchman is clipped by Mangala and goes to ground. It’s a clear stone-wall penalty but the referee is unmoved and the City defender is lucky to still be on the pitch.
6′ De Bruyne’s corner is cleared by Silva.
5′ Luiz concedes a corner, just getting ahead of De Bruyne, had to get that right or he would be walking.
4′ Impressive start so far from the visitors with the French champions yet to really get going.
3′ De Bruyne’s delivery is dangerous but it evades all the Man City players in the box.
2′ Navas sends in a dangerous cross but Motta clears the danger to concede a corner.
1′ Chance!! De Bruyne fires an effort that clears the bar from-range.
1′ The freekick from De Bruyne is cleared.
0′ Freekick to the visitors in a dangerous position after Luiz cynically fouls Agüero outside the box. He receives a yellow for his troubles, and will consequently miss the return-leg.
0′ The visitors get the game underway.
