40′ Pizzi

71′ Mitroglou

90’+3′ Santos (P)

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result for the Eagles meant that they extend their lead at the top of the league to five points on 70, whilst the Arsenalistas remain in fourth on 50 points, 20 shy of tonight’s opposition.

FT: It was a good result for the Eagles who travel to Munich for the first-leg of their quarter-final tie against Bayern in the Champions League.

FT: So Benfica managed to add to their first-half tally, with Mitroglou getting his second although it was Jonas who did all the work. Substitute Samaris curled in a superb freekick before Santos got a consolation from the penalty-spot. The hosts were helped by the post again and were possibly lucky not to concede the penalty for the initial foul.

90’+3′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the game to an end.

73′ Jonas wins a freekick in a good position as a result of a foul from Carlos.

72′ Stojiljković receives a yellow card for a foul on Eliseu.

71′ Goal!! A brilliant move from the hosts sees Gaitán pick out Jonas who bursts free, he could go himself but unselfishly squares for Mitroglou, who eventually turns it home despite several poor touches.

64′ Chance!! Santos fires wide after good work from Silva.

61′ Yellow card for Pizzi for a late challenge on Silva.

53′ Gaitán almost finds Jonas but Goaino clears the danger.

51′ Pedro Santos receives a yellow card for pulling back Sanches.

49′ Close!! Mitroglou and Gaitán combine, the Argentine is played through by the on-loan Fulham striker before firing an effort that Matheus smothers.

48′ Chance!! Pizzi pulls the ball back to Gaitán whose effort is blocked by Mitroglou before the ball falls to Eliseu who fires narrowly wide.

47′ Gaitán wins a freekick from Baiano. The Argentine made the most of that.

46′ Fejsa is penalised after he fouls Carlos.

45′ The hosts get the second-half underway.

HT: So will Benfica see the game out or will Braga get back into this game? Join us for the second period.

HT: Benfica’s third was a thing of pure class. Pizzi’s intelligent play enabled him to fire home from-range to all but put this game to bed. However, Braga have had chances and should they score the next goal, the game could be very interesting.

HT: Sanches, who made his first senior international caps for Portugal, has played with confidence and it was his hard work that led to the penalty. It was an inredibly harsh penalty against Ferreira given his arms were in a natural position and the ball was hit onto it from a few yards. Regardless, the penalty had to be scored for damage to be done and unfortunately for them, Jonas did exactly that.

HT: It could have been so different had Eduardo not hit the post with his header and had Silva’s lob gone in. However, Benfica capitalised pressing high up the pitch and it forced errors especially for the first goal.

HT: So the hosts really on their game tonight. Playing some good football despite a controversial penalty decision.

45′ The corner is played short before the referee calls time to bring the first-half to an end.

44′ Baiano wins a corner for the visitors.

40′ Goal!! Pizzi receives the ball from Jonas just outside the area before curling the ball low into the bottom corner. Very clever from the Portuguese midfielder who used the run of Mitroglou to create half a yard before curling home. Game over?

38′ Gaitán wins a freekick from Carlos.

37′ Goal!! Jonas sends Matheus the wrong way to double Benfica’s lead. Harsh on the visitors but nevertheless the Brazilian was clinical. The birthday boy gets his goal.

35′ Penalty!! Sanches does brilliantly to beat his man before his cross strikes the arm of Ferreira. Very very harsh decision in truth. His hands were by his side.

33′ Jonas’ freekick hits the top of the wall.

32′ Carlos is penalised for a foul outside the area on Gaitán following the corner. He took the ball but his studs were up. Good chance for the hosts.

32′ Pizzi’s cross is blocked behind by Pinto for a corner.

30′ The corner eventually comes to nothing before Gaitán concedes a foul.

30′ Pizzi wins a corner following a break from the corner.

18′ Sanches sends in a dangerous cross that just evades Jonas, who can’t get onto it on the slide.

17′ Goal!! Mauro twice loses possession after playing the ball out from the back, the ball falls to Mitroglou, whose first-time effort finds the back of the net with Matheus off-his-line.

15′ Chance!! Mitroglou audaciously volleys wide after his first attempt was charged down.

9′ Mitroglou meets an Almeida cross but it’s not a threat for Matheus.

6′ Close!! Pizzi fires an effort from-range but Matheus saves comfortably. The shot resulted after Jonas’ pass was intercepted before falling to the Portuguese midfielder.

4′ Pizzi cynically brings down Silva.

3′ Carlos is fouled by Jonas.
