Estádio José Alvalade, Lisboa, Portugal
87′ Silva Sent Off
Thanks for joining us.
FT: The result could have been so different had Ruiz scored the open goal and had Sanches been dismissed late on. It’s fair to say that Sporting didn’t really offer enough to win the game, with a draw the most they desrved.
FT: So Benfica leapfrog their neighbours to go two points clear at the top of the league. It was Sporting’s first league defeat at home since the 11th May 2014. It was Benfica’s first league win at the Estádio José Alvalade since the 10th December 2012.

HT: So will Benfica find another or will Sporting come back into this game in what could be the title decider? Join us again for the second half.
HT: It will be interesting to see who scores the next goal, if there is to be one. Benfica as it stands, will top the league and leapfrog their opponents taking them two points clear. If Sporting do get a goal, they would remain a point clear of the neighbours, but ideally, a win would be their best chance of extending their lead at the top of the table.
HT: The hosts have threatened with some dangerous crosses but the closest they came to finding an equaliser was when Jefferson’s effort struck the bar.
HT: There are few players are quite fortunate to be without a card in this match with Ewerton and Sanches both guilty of one-too many fouls. However, the referee has done well to keep his cards in his pocket.
HT: So Benfica are ahead at the break, and it was deserved. They’ve defended well and when they’ve come forward they’ve looked a real threat.

39′ Cheap corner for the hosts as Eliseu makes a mess of an easy nod back to his keeper.
