UEFA Champions League

Round of 16, First-leg

February 24th

Philips Stadion, Eindhoven, The Netherlands

67′ Pereiro Sent off (Second bookable offence)

Thanks for joining us.

FT: Both sides need to improve if they are to progress into the Quarter-finals, the return leg will be crucial, and should PSV score, they will have the advantage with an away goal.

FT: So a goalless first-leg that PSV will be more happier with, given that they were reduced to ten men.

90’+3′ Late PSV pressure comes to nothing as the referee calls time to bring the first-leg to an end.

90′ There will be three additional minutes.

87′ Chance!! Hendrix finds Jürgen Lestienne with a cross, but he volleys over from a tight-angle.

85′ Final change for the home side sees Maxime Lestienne come on for Jürgen Locadia.

84′ Gabi finds Griezmann with a cross but the Frenchman’s header doesn’t trouble Zoet.

81′ Atlético win a corner, they take it short, but Correa dribbles it out of play, another waste.

79′ Great block!! Correa receives a pull-back from Juanfran, he volleys at goal, but Bruma gets his body on the line to have the ball struck right at his face.

78′ Griezmann finds Torres, who fires an effort over the bar via a deflection. Corner Atlético.

74′ Second change for the hosts with Guardado departing for Jorrit Hendrix.

73′ Second change for the visitors with Ángel Correa coming on for Ñiguez.

72′ Luís whips in a cross from the left but Oblak gathers it.

70′ Since the dismissal, the visitors have been on top as expected.

69′ Chance!! Juanfran sends in a good cross in towards Torres, who fires over.

68′ Close!! Gabi tries a strike from range that Zoet does well to palm away.

67′ Dismissal!! Pereiro receives a second yellow card for leading with his arm on Godín.

64′ Change for the hosts with Narsingh departing for Nicolas Isimat-Mirin.

63′ The visitors win a corner, once again the delivery is poor and PSV have a goalkick.

61′ Disallowed Goal: The visitors have the ball in the net. This time there’s a good delivery that’s met by Godín, who heads home, but the referee blows the whistle adjudging the Uruguayan to have climbed on his man. Wasn’t a lot in that.

60′ The visitors win a corner.

60′ Change for the visitors with Fernando Torres coming on for Vietto.

56′ Willems sends in a low cross that Koke almost turns into his own net, but it goes just wide. The delivery is poor and the visitors clear.

54′ Koke delivers but Zoet claims easily.

53′ Pereiro receives a yellow card for pulling back Luís as he was trying to get forward.

50′ The delivery comes to nothing. Moments later, a good cross from the right is almost met by Vietto on the volley, but the hosts clear the danger.

49′ Narsingh thinks he’s won a freekick for the home side, but the decision goes against him. The decision eventually goes his way after much protestation.

45′ The visitors kick us off in the second half.

HT: So will Atlético take their chances in the second period, or will they be made to rue their misses by the hosts? Join us again for the second half.

HT: PSV did have one good opportunity when Pröpper fired straight at Oblak.

HT: The best chance of the game fell to Griezmann, who could only find Zoet, when he should have found the back of the net.

HT: Atlético have had the better of the chances, and should have taken at least one of them. Long balls have caught the Dutch side out, and were lucky not to concede when Vietto and Koke managed to get onto them.

HT: So no goals at half-time, but it’s been quite entertaining in truth; with more chances than expected.

45’+1′ The referee blows his whistle to bring the first 45 minutes to an end.

45’+1′ Luís is caught by a high foot by Van Ginkel, although the Brazilian’s head was quite low.

45′ There will be one additional minute.

40′ Arias whips in a cross but Oblak claims with ease.

38′ Juanfran looks to find Ñíguez, but the former’s pass is just slightly overhit.

33′ Van Ginkel drags an effort wide.

31′ So close!! What a run from Pereiro, he finds Pröpper who shoots straight at Oblak before the ball pinballs in the area, with Locadia and Willems firing strikes that the visitors block.

30′ The corner comes to nothing and the home side break, but a loose pass gifts the vsitors possession.

29′ What a chance Griezmann is played through on-goal, with just the keeper to beat, his shot is smothered by Zoet, who gets a strong hand on the ball to palm it away. Moments later a deflected strike goes out for a corner.

26′ Both sides finding it difficult to break up this tightly contested midfield.

22′ PSV have been impressive, they’ve looked more than capable of dealing with the Atlético attack and look dangerous on the break.

21′ Savić receives a yellow card for a sliding challenge on Locadia, the former Man City man feels hard-done by as it appears he won the ball.

17′ Close!! Another long ball from Savić finds Koke, whose attempted lob is gathered by the retreating Zoet.

16′ It has been quite a cautious start from both sides, who are just trying to familiarise themselves with their opposition.

13′ Griezmann wins a freekick in the opposition half. The freekick is dealt with by the hosts.

9′ Penalty shout as Locadia goes down under a challenge from Gabi, there was contact, although not enough of contact according to the referee, who waves play on.

8′ Some nice skill from Willems gets the crowd going, although the resulting cross came to nothing.

6′ The hosts enjoy a spell on the ball but are forced back by the visitors.

4′ The corner is retaken, but just like the first delivery it comes to nothing.

3′ So close!! Vietto, is picked out by a fantastic long ball from Gabi. The Argentinean manages to scuff a strike past Zoet, but not past Bruma, who clears off the line to concede the corner. There is a slight delay as Zoet is down after coming out to smother the shot.
