57′ Ronaldo

Thanks for joining us.

FT: So although Madrid are favourites to preogress into the quarter-final, you wouldn’t want to write Roma off just yet.

FT: So Real Madrid take a precious two-away-goal advantage back to the Bernabéu courtesy of Ronaldo and Jesé. However, there is still a second leg to be played and in football anything can happen.

81′ Rodríguez departs for Jesé for Madrid.

80′ Rodríguez fires off-target.

79′ Benzema drags a strike wide. Soon after there are appeals as Florenzi is brought down by Carvajal. The Italian certainly got to the ball first and was definitely taken out, however the referee is unmoved.

78′ Džeko is played through, but from a tight angle he shoots into the sidenetting.

77′ Ronaldo crosses for Rodríguez but the Colombian heads wide.

76′ Substitution for Roma with Daniele De Rossi coming on for Vainqueur.

75′ A dangerous cross from Rodríguez is met by Benzema, the Frenchman’s header is blocked and it comes to Ronaldo, who feels he should have a penalty after he was caught high after he chested the ball. The Portuguese made a meal of it.

73′ Madrid look to break but Ronaldo loses possession as he goes to ground, too easily according to the referee.

71′ So close!! Džeko does well to hold the ball up, he plays it into Vainqueur and he slices the effort marginally wide.

70′ Danger as Salah gets forward, he looks to cut it back for Džeko, but Varane makes a fantastic challenge to deny the Bosnian.

Marcelo finds the Portugal forward, who uses the rabona to cut inside Florenzi, before firing an effort via a deflection off the Italian to beat Szczęsny into the top-corner. It’s goal number 33 of the season, 89 in the Champions League, and the first goal in the Champions League under Zinedine Zidane as manager.

54′ El Shaarawy looks to be in, but Navas comes out to smother both ball and player, before clearing the danger.

47′ Ramos is fouled by Salah.

46′ Ronaldo thinks he’s won a corner. The ball did get a nick of Manolas, but the referee gives the goalkick.

45′ Madrid kick us off.

HT: So how long will Roma be able to contain this Madrid attacking force? Will they find a goal themselves? Will Ronaldo end his away goal drought?

HT: Neither keeper has really been tested, although Szczęsny did seem to look worried by Marcelo’s striker – much to the credit of the two defences as well as a combination of poor passing and sloppy attacking play.

HT: So Madrid are dominating possession, but are yet to really threaten the Roma defence, who have done well to contain both Benzema and Ronaldo. The Italian side have looked dangerous themselves, getting behind Carvajal and Ramos on a number of occasions, but they haven’t made the most of their opportunities.

35′ The corner is taken short, but it’s a waste as Florenzi’s cross is poor and Navas claims with ease.

34′ Pjanić wins a corner after his shot is blocked by Ramos.

32′ Almost phenomenal stuff from Madrid. Ronaldo chips a looping ball into Marcelo again, who took it on the volley, but his sliced effort swerves just wide. Szczęsny was scrambling.

7′ Ronaldo’s freekick is poor and is skewed horribly wide.
