2-0

Thanks for joining us.

FT: The result means that Leipzig moved up to second in the Emirates Cup table on five points, three points behind leaders Arsenal, ahead of their clash with third placed Sevilla, who are on four points, while Benfica dropped to the bottom of the table on two points.

FT: The Bundesliga runners-up didn’t create many chances but doubled their lead when Compper headed home from a Kaiser freekick before a deflected strike from-range by Bruma tested Varela.

FT: The Portuguese Champions created some good chances but it wasn’t enough to come back in the match. First substitute Mitroglou had a goal disallowed for offside after Mvogo parried a strike from fellow substitute Jonas before López struck the post with a header.

FT: So Leipzig defeat Benfica to move up to second in the Emirates Cup.

HT: So will Leipzig hold onto their lead or will Benfica come back in this match? Join us again for the second-half.

HT: Leipzig know that one goal may not be enough against Benfica and they will look to ensure they make the most of their chances in order to put the tie to bed. Benfica have looked promising in attack but have lacked the cutting-edge in the final third. They cannot afford to concede another goal as it could be game over. They have to be more clinical with the chances they create in the second-half and have a number of quality players on the bench if the performance fails to improve.

HT: Benfica didn’t create many good chances but got into a number of good positions with Cervi cauing problems for the Leipzig defence but his final pass has let him down on a few occasions. The closest the Águias came was when Grimaldo fired a freekick just wide.

HT: Leipzig created some good chances and took the lead against the run of play with their first real attack of the game when Halstenberg fired home after exchanging passes with Palacios. Palacios then had a good chance when he was played through on-goal by Bruma but his effort was tame and straightforward for Varela. Burke then went close on two separate occasions, first he forced Varela into a fine save before he was denied on the volley by the Benfica keeper.

34′ Cervi wins a freekick after a foul from Kaiser.

28′ Chance!! Bruma finds Palacios with a fine chipped-pass but the striker’s shot is tame and Varela makes a comfortable stop.
